What We Do in the Winter (Hint: It’s Not Just Drinking Tea)

When the camping season winds down and the last caravan rolls out, people often ask us what we do all winter.

From the outside, 7 Ducks might look quiet, peaceful, and slightly taken over by the wildlife. In reality, winter is when some of the most important work of the year happens.

Although the pitches are empty and the gates are quieter, the work definitely doesn’t stop. Winter is our chance to fix, refresh, and improve everything that’s worked hard throughout the season, so the campsite is ready to welcome you back in top shape.

One of our biggest winter jobs is the showers. After months of constant use, they deserves some serious attention. We deep clean from top to bottom, check plumbing and water pressure, repair wear and tear, and refresh fittings. It might not be glamorous, but warm, reliable showers are a camping essential, especially after a long day outdoors.

The toilet block also gets its moment in the spotlight. Nobody chooses a campsite because of the toilets, but everyone remembers them if something isn’t right. Winter is when we carry out thorough maintenance, fix leaks and flushes, replace tired parts, and make sure everything is clean, reliable, and ready for the season ahead.

Beyond the facilities, winter is all about maintenance across the site. We repair pitches, look after paths and drainage, service electrics and water points, and generally fix anything that creaks, leaks, or looks like it’s had a busy summer. If it needs attention, winter is when it gets sorted.

Of course, there is still plenty of tea involved, and occasionally a biscuit or two. But most days are spent with muddy boots, cold fingers, and a long to-do list, all in the name of keeping 7 Ducks the calm, welcoming campsite you know and love.

So while you might not see the winter work when you visit, you’ll definitely feel it. Clean facilities, well-kept pitches, and a site that feels cared for don’t happen by accident. We’ll be back open before you know it, with the ducks on security duty and everything ready for another great season at 7 Ducks.
